A FRONTIERS teacher training workshop took place in DCU, IrelandMarch 4th, 2020.
DCU’s ICIWL hosted an educational workshop for science teachers in Ireland using FRONTIERS lesson plans suitable for the Junior Cycle Earth and Space strand. In the lesson ‘Exploring the Sun. Does the Sun Rotate?’ the teachers built a model to distinguish between something passing in front of the Sun and something that might be at its surface. The teachers then formed their own light curves as they worked on the lesson ‘Discovering Alien Worlds: The Discovery of an Exoplanet.’
The teachers that attended the workshop came from the following post-primary schools.. Marian College Ballsbridge, Loreto Balbrigan, Muckross Park College, Donneybrook, Holy Faith Killester and Tallaght Community School.
According to their feedback, teachers appreciated the practical focus of the workshop and its application to the Junior Cycle Earth and Space strand.
